Q: My loved one does pretty well but we feel uncomfortable leaving him/her alone during the day when we’re at work. What advice can you offer?
A: Your loved one may be a candidate for the Adult Day Services program which offers the supervision and support many elders need while living independently or with family members.
Q: Can you offer some advice in selecting a nursing home for our loved one?
A: Franciscan Health Community recommends that the senior is brought along on visits so they have a role in decision-making. A visit can also ease any fears your loved one may have about the impending life change. The caring, sensitive staff at Franciscan Health Community is always ready to help with this transition. Also, ask your physician and pastor for recommendations.
Q: How do most seniors handle the transition from independent living to a senior residence?
A: Typically, seniors do quite well with this life transition. Many residents improve significantly during the first few weeks; they’re getting nutritious meals and quality care, taking their medications on time, and having access to socialization opportunities that help to feed their spirit, brighten the day, and ease loneliness. As always, the resident and their family members are key members of the care team, helping to create a comfortable and fulfilling living experience.
Franciscan Health Community believes seniors should surround themselves with treasured belongings and furnishings that help to maintain their sense of home. The goal is to provide the older adult with a supportive and nurturing home where they can continue living a fulfilling life, in a faith-filled environment, with family and friends nearby.
